Three steps to transformation

There is an interesting article on procurement transformation in Supply Management this month by some of my former colleagues at KPMG. Transformation affects most procurement professionals every day, either as part of the performance improvement expected from procurement teams or procurement professionals managing the supply base on behalf of their internal clients.

Tim Chase, Richard Berry and Imran Kahn suggest three steps to successful transformation: first, establish a compelling case for change; second, develop a realistic and value-creating solution that supports the wider business vision; and finally, execute the transformation based on changing behaviour, culture and mindsets.

Identifying the appetite of organisation’s desire and ability to change as one of the critical success factors highlighted. In my experience, this is the most important factor. Having a “burning platform” provides the clarity and energy needed to drive through significant change. Without it, even the best change agents struggle to deliver significant results.
